Charlie Apicella/ Don Braden/ Avery Sharpe/ Carmen Intorre Jr./ Austin Walker is a quartet which digs deep to the roots of modern music. Charlie’s arrangements display his love and admiration for the history of the blues with classics by Ma Rainey, featuring his tenor banjo and Don Braden’s soprano saxophone.

Legendary improviser Avery Sharpe brings his years of collaboration with McCoy Tyner and Yusef Lateef to pair with Don’s flute for some previously unheard gems composed by Lateef. The music is powered by drummers Carmen Intorre Jr. and Austin Walker, who add an explosive and sensitive drive.

As always, Charlie’s classic 1950’s inspired guitar voice is on display on selections by Billie Holiday, Grant Green, and Count Basie.
